Architecture for a plant in transition - from cultural memory to ecological futures

Conference by EAAE

From 22-23 April 2027 the Deans' Summit and General Meeting part 1 will be hosted by ULisboa, in Lisbon.

ARCHITECTURE FOR A PLANET IN TRANSITION: FROM CULTURAL MEMORY TO ECOLOGICAL FUTURES
Architecture for a Planet in Transition: From Cultural Memory to Ecological Futuresframes architecture as a discipline responsive to profound environmental, social, and technological transformations that demand new approaches to practice, research, and education. Rather than treating cultural memory and ecological futures as opposing conditions, they are understood as complementary dimensions of collective intelligence. Cultural memory is conceived not as a static heritage to be preserved, but as an active repository of knowledge, material cultures, and forms of inhabitation. Ecological transition, in turn, is approached as a process of continuity, adaptation, and reinterpretation rather than rupture. Aligned with emerging European research priorities, the objectives of Horizon Europe, and the New European Bauhaus, the 7th Deans' Summit, to be held in Lisbon on 22–23 April 2027under the theme Architecture for a Planet in Transition: From Cultural Memory to Ecological Futures, positions architecture as a catalyst for activating Europe’s cultural legacy and as a bridge between cultural continuity, ecological responsiveness, and innovation.
