The EAAE Academies

The European Association for Architectural Education is dedicated to fostering collaborative platforms for the collection, exchange, and dissemination of knowledge and experience in architectural education, research, and conservation. By facilitating dialogue and sharing best practices, the EAAE seeks to inspire innovation and thought-provoking discussions across these critical domains, reflected in the work of three subgroups: the Education Academy, the Research Academy, and the Conservation Network. 

The Education Academy focuses on architectural pedagogy, aiming to articulate and promote common concerns and interests in architectural education. It serves as a think-tank, providing a space for academics to reflect upon and respond to pressing issues in architectural education. Given the diverse approaches to architectural training across Europe, the Academy works to consolidate and evaluate existing teaching practices while fostering new initiatives. 

The Research Academy provides a structured platform for architectural research, with a particular emphasis on PhD education. Recognizing the fragmented nature of architectural research in Europe, the Academy aims to collect, assess, and promote various research perspectives and methodologies. The Research Academy plays a crucial role in ensuring that architectural research remains a dynamic and evolving discipline, fostering collaboration among institutions and researchers.

The Conservation Network serves as a vital forum for academics and practitioners engaged in architectural conservation. Through biennial workshops hosted by EAAE member schools, the network addresses theoretical and practical challenges related to heritage and conservation. By facilitating discussions on conservation and adaptive reuse as a departure point of addressing contemporary challenges, the network promotes the complementarity of conservation and innovation.

The activities of these subgroups are open to all; thus they consist of broad and diverse groups of educators, students, researchers and practitioners gathering around various topics. All are welcome to get in touch with the EAAE to join their activities or propose new ones.
