Traditions and roots of institutions

What is the relevance of the traditions and roots of institution in the contemporary situation (such Beaux-Arts, Polytechnics, apprenticeship, Bauhaus, AA, the “radical pedagogies” of the ’50-’60-’70, …)? How do new schools of architecture relate, react, reconnect to practices and conceptions of these roots, or take a distance of them?
