Workshops
Through workshops and seminars, the Education Academy maps the kaleidoscopic field of architectural education in Europe and globally. The aim is to identify concepts regarding the intentions and position of architecture education, as well as conditions, circumstances and challenges faced by institutions and educators. Throughout these workshops and seminars, the Education Academy is seeking to ensure diversity, rigour and responsiveness within architectural education and to form an open and collegiate community.
Following conclusions of a series of workshops held by the Education Academy between 2016 and 2018, a position paper on architectural education was presented at the EAAE Annual Conference in Porto on September 1st, 2018.
From autumn 2019 onwards, the EAAE Education Academy launched a new series of five workshops dedicated to the EAAE position paper. In each of these workshops, the participants explored and discussed one of the five core topics of the Position paper – topics that, during the two previous years, the EAAE community had identified as burning issues in architectural education.
During the pandemic, the EAAE Education Academy launched a series of three workshops focused on architectural design remote teaching issues, which took place on first Fridays in February, March and April 2021. We sought trigger case studies – examples of good practice from within architectural education, in which the author-educator takes a position. The workshops were framed around a limited but thought-provoking selection of such contributions. After the workshop, speakers formalized their presentations in papers which can be found in the repository we had established as a resource and blog during the remote teaching period called the pEA blog. In 2022, the Education Academy joined the SDG series, an array of activities looking into strategies and practices of integrating UN’s sustainable development goals in architectural education. More on this series can be found here.
A continued series of workshops ‘teaching the teachers’ is conducted or supported by the EAAE. This series introduce educators to the skills and knowledge needed to cultivate the next generation of architects and urban designers. Read about the goals and methods of the workshop held in 2023 here.
